It is with a deep feeling of loss and pain that we tell you of the passing of Judy Backlund.  To all who ever had the privilege to meet Judy she was an inspiration and a kindhearted person that you will never forget.  I don't think anyone could express this better than Nancy Wilson.  Please Click the "read more" button to read an email that Nancy sent telling of the legacy that Judy will leave.

Dear Downtowners,

It is with great sadness that I write to tell you of the passing of a dear friend and Morning Rotarian, Judy Backlund. Judy was the spark that lit the torch of literacy for Rotary in Ellensburg, at CWU, in Sudan and Macau, and beyond. Her loss is heartbreaking to everyone who knew her.

Judy and her husband Phil led the AM Club through many experiences together, and we were actually working recently to bring about a new partnership between the AM Club, our Downtown Club, and the Spirit Therapeutic Riding Center.  I have no doubt that this effort will go forward in good time.

Some of us were AM Rotarians when the Downtown Club was formed. Everyone who knew Judy admired her energy, grit, and positive sense of humor. No one loved a party more than Judy, and her spirit will live on in future Ellensburg Rotary gatherings.

I will keep you all informed as to plans that are still forming in Judy's memory.

Judy's leadership and zeal for literacy will live on in our community.

With condolences to Phil, their sons, and all the Backlund family,

Nancy Wilson
